Mighty Planes - Pegasus Rocket
3D Modeling | Printing | VFx
Mighty Planes is a documentary television program produced by and aired on Discovery Channel Canada and also broadcast around the world. Similarly to its sister series Mighty Ships, each episode follows a particular aircraft and provides an insight into what it does.
I was responsible for modeling the Pegasus Rocket model and its entire components with every detail, also the frame it rest on Stargazer plane and additional details on the plane, hangar and props around them.
This was a great episode to work on, worked with talented Kerosene VFx Team and Discovery Channel Canada to make the episode.
Software Used
Maya, Redshift, Photoshop, After Effects
Orbital ATK's Stargazer is the only Tristar left in the world flying and it is able to shoot Nasa Weather Satellites into space in the air. Originally it was a Air Canada Jetliner and it was converted to carry a very different cargo, the Pegasus XL Rocket, which launches satellites designed to detect the speed and intensity of hurricanes.
I was responsible for modeling the entire Rocket and its entire components, unwrapping and texturing the every element for animation and rendering.
I have used Maya for the 3D Modeling and Unwrapping stage, used Photoshop and Redshift for texturing and prepped it for compositing with appropriate naming convention and grouping.
Modeled, Unwrapped, Textured everything exactly the way Discovery Channel Canada wanted and Kerosene VFx Team needed.
